CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) - There was a great turnout for a literature festival on Saturday.
Taking place at the Tri Star Career Compact, the Grand Lake Area Literature Festival gave kids of all ages a chance to not only learn about books but meet their authors and get the books signed. Each station had a different author of children, teen, and even adult books.
Meeting the author face-to-face provided the kids with a cherished memory, as well as showing how beneficial reading can be. Not only were there book booths, but over 200 kids around the area were nominated for most improved readers in their class, giving them a free voucher for one book at the event. Presentations were provided by the authors, and workshops and crafts were also available.
"What we want them to take away is an excitement for reading and a reward for their hard work. So, as they go across the stage every hour, we have school districts coming through, as they go across the stage, they're getting a certificate with their name on it but they're also getting a voucher," says Michelle Houts, Author Liaison for the Grand Lake Area Literature Festival.
By rewarding these hard-working readers with a free book voucher, each student was able to hand pick out their favorite book and have a nice conversation with the author.
