Canned goods food pantry generic

KENTON, Ohio (WLIO) - A church in Kenton is asking for the public's help to keep their food pantry running after their furnace failed.

Kenton Full Gospel Church pastor Anita VanBuskirk says that the furnace for the church's food pantry was inspected earlier this week and its heat exchanger was determined to be defective. For safety reasons, VanBuskirk says that the pantry would have needed to be closed with the furnace failure, though King Plumbing and HVAC stepped in on Tuesday to install a new furnace for the pantry. VanBuskirk says that they now have 30 days to pay for the furnace and installation, which cost $6,500 total.

As of Wednesday afternoon, VanBuskirk says that they have been able to raise about $3,000 through community donations, and are continuing to ask the public for help. The pastor says that this time of year is especially hard for the 200 families that the food pantry serves.

Donations can be made on the church's GoFundMe page, or by mail to Kenton Full Gospel Church, PO Box 129, Kenton, Ohio. More information can be found on the church's Facebook page or by calling (567) 674-4228.
