ALGER, Ohio (WLIO) — Things got wild Tuesday at the Alger Public Library as children came face-to-face with a variety of unique animals, thanks to a visit from the Exotic Zoo.

The event was part of the library’s “Color Our World” summer reading program, giving kids the opportunity to pet and learn about animals including a sloth, kangaroo and even a snake.

Peyton Risner, 5, said her favorite animal was the snake.

“Because it feels good—it feels kind of soft,” she said.

Zayn Lyons, 8, also favored the reptiles.

“When I was petting it, some of its skin went on my finger and it felt weird,” he said.

Stacey Hensley, director of the Alger Public Library, said the library strives to offer more than just books.

“The library is for everyone. We have books, obviously, but we’re not the quiet, ‘shush’ kind of library you used to have,” Hensley said. “We have programs going on, and we love to see faces come in.”
