KALIDA, Ohio (WLIO) - Kalida High School hosted a one-of-a-kind end of the year concert to show off special talent.
The school received a grant from the Ohio Arts Council for students to form rock bands. Throughout the school year, 3 groups would meet during their lunch and study halls to practice and learn rock music.
This concert was the culmination of that hard work.
The end of the year concert was made by the students, for the students.
Because of the success from the concert, a rock band class will become part of Kalida’s curriculum.
"We have strong concert and marching band programs here, but we kind of want to take the momentum from that and push it into something a little bit more modern. We are going to still focus on those other ensembles, but we wanted to offer something that's a little more modern and mainstream for the kids," says Jacob Litwiller, high school band director for Kalida.
"It' been a lot more than I expected when I joined. I was kind of expecting a more mellow kind of experience, but it has been a blessing and just so much fun. I definitely did not expect that tonight would be happening, but," says Aubree Sickles, a band member.
Students, teachers, and parents alike all shared this special night to celebrate the end of the year and hear some rock classics.
