LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Runners of all ages broke a sweat to raise money for a good cause and get into the Halloween spirit.

Kiwanis Trick or Trot 5k raises money for school programs around the area

For many people, the best part of Trick or Trot is getting to incorporate their creativity and Halloween spirit into the race.

Around 200 people turned out for the Lima Kiwanis Club's 6th annual Trick or Trot 5k and Mile Fun Run. Proceeds from t-shirt sales and entries fund leadership-building clubs that Kiwanis organize in schools from elementary to college level, as well as scholarships. For many people, the best part of Trick or Trot is getting to incorporate their creativity and Halloween spirit into the race.

"It's just part of fall, and with the leaves changing colors and running through the cemetery, it's really cool. It just kind of brings people together, and then it's also amazing some of the costumes that come out. We've seen a hot dog and condiments out here today; we've seen some minions," said Kiwanis member and event co-chair, Crystal Miller.

The Kiwanis is still accepting votes for their virtual pet contest on Facebook through November 1st. Proceeds will support local animal shelters and rescues.
