Laps for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society

ELIDA, OH (WLIO) - Elida High School student organizations are working together to raise money to fight cancer. Laps for Life is an annual event put on by the Elida National Honor Society to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Students and community members visited booths hosted by the girls’ tennis team, the senior and sophomore classes, and other student clubs to raise money for cancer research. Cancer is a disease that affects every community, and the students know the importance of every step they make to beat it.

“It’s a big problem, and it’s a problem that is not really going to get solved unless people like us get out and help,” says Maddox Bell, senior at Elida High School. “And this is an easy way to get out and help too. And raising a couple hundred, even a thousand or two (thousand) dollars. So, it’s an easy way to help your community and help people that really need it.”

“It’s a great community event that everybody comes out.  I am happy to see people from all over the grades, kindergarten through seniors to come out and support,” says Conner Smith, senior at Elida High School. “It really means a lot to see how dedicated the community is to helping support and fight cancer and support Elida as a whole really.”

Every time somebody did a lap, they got another ticket to enter into a raffle for a prize at the end of the event.
