LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima Senior put a new spin on an old tradition ahead of Friday night's homecoming game.

As part of spirit week leading up to game night, 24 organizations and over 300 people walked in Lima Senior High School's homecoming parade. In the past, the parade had been held on the school's track, but this year the student council decided they had bigger and better plans.

Walking through downtown to the school meant that students could get more creative since floats and vehicles weren't possible on the track. The change also meant more people coming out to cheer on the football team throughout the parade route.

"Just being able to be recognized by the entire community, and not just at a football game, and bringing everybody in, I think that's going to give our boys that extra whatever they need to make it through tomorrow night. Tomorrow night is also our youth football league night, so all the youth football players and cheerleaders will get in free. We're hoping to have a great crowd," said Tiffany Daniel, an athletic secretary for Lima City Schools who helped organize the parade.
