The election season is here, and the seven Lima council candidates got to talk about the issues facing the city in a debate Thursday evening.
The event was hosted by the Lima African-American Chamber of Commerce and featured the candidates in the contested races for Lima’s second, fourth, and sixth wards. The candidates tackled questions about safety services, livable wages, and of course economic development. One of the reasons that the African-American chamber hosted this event is because they would like to see more inclusion of minority businesses in current and future business investments in Lima.
“I would like to see council as a whole come together and include minority businesses as the same way they do on the federal level, where there are automatic write-ins for a given amount of a project, whether it be sweeping the streets, selling pencils, buying paper, whatever it is. We want to have the same opportunity to present those businesses and get those businesses up to speed,” said Tim Callahan, Pres. Lima African-American Chamber of Commerce
Current council president John Nixon is the lone candidate for his seat after his opponent dropped out of the race last week. The election is on November 5th.
