Lima Kiwanis Club hands out more checks to organizations that help children

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Kiwanis Club of Lima generously donated money to three local organizations that work tirelessly to serve children in the community. The Club's Community Outreach contributed to Family Promise, the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, and the Allen County Sheriff's Office's D.A.R.E Program as part of their mission to improve the lives of children. During the event, representatives from each organization had the chance to explain their programs and how the funds would be utilized to benefit the children.

"At Girl Scouts, we're really trying to make sure every girl has access to the benefits of Girl Scouting. They're going to come away with seeking challenges, engaging in community problem solving, positive values, and healthy relationships. This money is going to help us make sure that every girl has the opportunity to get that benefit." says Kelly Trame, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio's Director of Development

"The Kiwanis have helped a great deal. They've supported us for many years in the D.A.R.E Program, and the D.A.R.E Program is almost all Allen County Schools. That money will be spent to help educate kids about drugs and the things against them, help to pay our deputies, move our deputies forward through these schools, and give them the tools they need to work with these kids in these schools." added Sheriff Matthew Treglia as he represented the Allen County Sherriff's Office D.A.R.E Program.

The donations were made possible by various Kiwanis fundraisers, with the primary one being the Kiwanis Chicken/Ham Barbeque that the Club holds in June.
