Multiple area wrestlers advance to podium matches heading into final day of state tournament

COLUMBUS (WLIO) — Several area wrestlers remain in contention heading into the final day of the Ohio high school state wrestling tournament at the Schottenstein Center.
On the girls side, Liberty-Benton’s Evie Parmelee will compete in the 190-pound consolation bracket.
In Division II, Wapakoneta’s Zane Russell will wrestle for a state title in the 106-pound class. Ben Logan’s Owen Weaks (144) and Ethan Carpenter (175) will also compete for first place. Wapakoneta teammates Keyno Mendez and Wyatt Buell remain in action, along with Kenton’s Isaac Blevins and Celina’s Cash Patrick.
Division III will feature two Lima Central Catholic wrestlers competing for championships, with Antwain Adams in the 138-pound final and Jordan Neal in the 144-pound title match. St. John’s Edward Kessen will also wrestle for gold at 150 pounds.
Other area competitors still alive include Riverdale’s Grady Phelps, Versailles’ Landon Knapke and Patrick Henry’s Trent Johnson. The 285-pound championship match will feature an all–West Central Ohio showdown between Indian Lake’s Christopher Timms and Versailles’ Ben Kaiser.
Finals and placement matches will take place Sunday in Columbus.
