Police in Lima are looking to use technology to try and curb potential gun violence in the city.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's office announcing $3.7 million dollars in grants to law enforcement statewide today(4/25/22). The Lima Police Department is the only recipient of the state dollars in our region; getting $75,425 dollars in funding.
The Office of Governor Mike DeWine's says the department will use the funds to acquire a new mobile gunshot detection system. The devices are placed in areas with a high incidence of gunfire and firearm assaults. They then alert police to gunfire. The idea is by quickly locating gunshots, the system can provide evidence of criminal activity, and deter gun violence.
