Lima School Board picks Collins as new High School Principal

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima City Schools picked a long-time Spartan to be their new high school principal.

The Lima City School Board hired Darnell Collins Thursday night to be the next principal at Lima Senior.  Collins is currently serving as the district’s alternative school principal. He has been with Lima City Schools since 1997, serving in various roles in different buildings in and out of the classroom.  Because of his experience, the board says he is a great person to take over as principal.

“He knows about them from the elementary ages, middle school ages, high school ages. He graduated from here, so he knows what students go through in Lima and in the Lima City schools, and he is able to relate to them,” says Deanna Reynolds-Griffin, President of the Lima School Board. “That is a very important thing when becoming a high school principal.”

“I really believe in what our community stands for, what this district stands for, for our families and students that we serve,” says Darnell Collins, the new Lima Senior Principal. “I’m an ex-student here, so it brings a lot of pride to me to be here. It’s a blessing to me to be able to serve in this capacity.”

Collins will be taking over for Tyler Turner, who is taking another job outside the school district at the end of the year.
