Lima's Marine Corps League celebrates the Marines 248th birthday

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Once a Marine always a Marine, and Friday night local Marines came together to celebrate the Corps 248th birthday. The Marine Corps League Detachment 1063 carried on this time-honored tradition, including the oldest marine in attendance serving the youngest marine the first piece of birthday cake.   The brotherhood of the marines is bonded by the fact, when the nation calls, they are first to fight and ready to win and their service continues as they help the community in various ways.

“I have been a Marine for 33 years,” says Shannon Nichols, Commandant, Marine Corps League Detachment 1063.  “There is nothing more proud, nothing more honorable than celebrating our birthday together as Marines.  No matter how young or old we are it’s the one thing that bonds us and keeps us together.  It’s lifechanging, it’s memorable, it’s a family, it’s a bond which never can be broken.”
