Before you fire up your grills for this holiday weekend, you should make sure you are taking proper precautions. Officials with the local fire departments say it's important to be aware of any flammable stuff in the area and to keep children away from the grill. People should only use the approved materials for the grill, such as charcoal. They also say it's very important to make sure your grill isn't in any indoor area.

"Even if there will be a rain shower or something, do not put those devices inside a garage or any enclosed environment. The products could combust and could accumulate in those areas and cause people some problems with increased carbon monoxide and smoke inhalation, stuff like that," John Norris, platoon chief at Shawnee Fire Department, said.

Norris also tells us if you plan to have a bonfire, Ohio EPA regulations say you are only allowed to have a cooking fire the size of a campfire. You must also use cut wood.
