A local woman has returned home after giving her time to those in need.
Nurse Loretta Burgei is back after spending two weeks in Houston helping those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Burgei traveled to shelters to look at the medical needs people have from glasses prescriptions to offering mental support. She says that sometimes just listening can help disaster victims cope with their situation. When Bergui's group wasn't at shelters, they were loading up pick up trucks with supplies and going house to house in rural areas seeing what those people are in need of.Â
"It's been an honor and a privilege to work with American Red Cross, and it's all voluntary," says Bergui. "It's been amazing to see so many people come together from all over the United States, all into one area doing their best and helping people who are in need."
The Red Cross is hosting a fundraiser at Bellacino's Pizza and Grinders November 4th. The event will go from 11 A.M. to 10 P.M. and all profits will benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Efforts.
