There's a new alternative to getting around Lima now. Whether you need to get to work, a night out or a community event, you can find a ride.
The ride share app, Lyft, has pulled into Lima. After downloading the mobile app on your phone, riders can request a ride anywhere they need. Riders fill out billing information and can then request a ride at their current location. Like cabs, Lyft can be a safe alternative to getting a ride when you aren't able to drive on a night like Thanksgiving Eve. The drivers are your everyday community members who have cleared a background check and have approved documentation.
"Back here in Lima we just kind of got company that we're able to use and it can get bogged down quickly," Community Lyft Driver, Ambyr Rose, said. "So I got to thinking, OK, lets check with Uber and see if they're willing to let us have drivers/ They weren't. By the time I turned my attention to Lyft we had a driver that signed up."
Lyft isn't only a night time service. Riders can get a ride anytime there are drivers on the road. You can also schedule rides ahead of time.
"It's not just for your night time crowd. We actually drive during the day as well. We've got 24 hour coverage for our drivers. We have over 30 drivers in the area and growing."
Rose said she is a part of a Facebook group called "Lyft in Lima Community" and encourages riders to join the group to find out about events and if there will be drivers available at certain times.
