CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) - The body of a man discovered in Grand Lake St. Marys over the weekend has been identified.
The Celina Police Department says that they have been able to identify 47-year-old Alvin Lee Stabler of Hoover, Alabama as the drowning victim that was found in the lake on Saturday, December 27. Police add that Stabler had most recently been staying in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Stabler is believed to be the suspect in a car theft that happened back on Christmas Day. Celina PD says that they were called to Bud's Chrysler around 7 PM on the 25th, to find a man in pickup who appeared to be stealing it. The man took off on foot and was spotted on security camera climb over a retaining wall and entering the lake.
This incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact Det. A.J. Poppe at the Celina Police Department.

Celina detectives worked over the weekend and through tips received were able to positively identify the drowning victim and suspect in an attempted motor vehicle theft. The man was identified through both law enforcement resources and by family members as 47-year-old Alvin Lee Stabler from Hoover, Alabama and most recently staying in Ft. Wayne, IN.
