Mercy Health to merge with Bon Secours Health System

Mercy Health will be merging with a Catholic health system based on the east coast, and that merger is not expected to mean any changes for Mercy Health St. Rita's here in Lima.

Mercy Health is merging with Bon Secours Health System. According to the senior director of communications at Mercy Health in Cincinnati, Maureen Richmond, she tells Your News Now that the merger is not expected to impact local facilities. She says they will organize and restructure in a thoughtful manner, and reinvest resources back into local communities.

Bon Secours operates 20 hospitals and other medical facilities in five states along the Atlantic Coast and Kentucky. Mercy Health owns 23 hospitals, including St. Rita's and other medical facilities in Ohio and Kentucky. Officials from both health systems expect to complete the merger by the end of 2018.

When finished, this will be the 5th largest Catholic healthcare system in the country, and one of the top 20 health systems overall, with 43 hospitals and more than 1,000 care sites.
