Mole patrol at St. Rita's

St. Rita's Medical Center is offering free mole patrol for anyone 55 and older.

Mole patrol is a free skin cancer screening event that is performed by oncology certified nursing staff. Oncology Nurse, Suzie Warnecke says there has been an increase in patients with skin cancer in Allen County and this event can bring awareness to the community about skin cancer and sun damage.

Warnecke says it's important people get annual screenings especially if they are at higher risk risk of getting skin cancer, like those who are fair-skinned or burn easily.

"The clinicians at St. Rita's feel it's important to create a community awareness that you can develop skin cancer at any age, usually it is as a result of years of exposure to the UV light, tanning bed usage, people who have light skin, light eyes, light hair those are the ones who have an increase for developing skin cancer at any time in their life," says Warnecke.

The screenings will be on July 31st at the Senior Services Center from 8 to 11 a.m.
