COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — Traffic fatalities across Ohio continue to decline, but troopers say there is still work to be done.

For the fourth consecutive year, Ohio has seen a decrease in traffic fatalities. In 2025, there were 1,037 fatal crashes, a 3.7% decrease from 2024. Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol say they will remain highly visible across the state in an effort to continue the downward trend.

According to statistics, 26% of fatal crashes over the last five years involved vehicles driving off the roadway. Unsafe speed, driving left of center and following too closely were also among the leading factors contributing to deadly crashes.

Patrol officials say many fatal crashes are preventable and encourage the public to call #677 to report reckless or impaired drivers.
