ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) — St. Marys senior Logan Henschen is a workhorse.

She's a three-sport athlete taking part in tennis, basketball, and track and field.

Outside of her athletics, she's on track to be the school's salutatorian, sporting a 4.73 GPA.

"I would say she's just selfless. She is a great teammate. It's never about Logan. She doesn't have to be a 20-point scorer to be effective; she is just all about others and a great kid," said Scott Jordan.

St. Marys' senior Logan Henschen is always giving it her all. From basketball to tennis and track and field, the Lady Rider leaves it all on the table.

"To represent St. Marys in three different programs, I'm really grateful. Our community has a bunch of support for all of our athletes, and I'm just happy I get to support and represent St. Marys as a whole," said Logan Henschen.

"She's just been so coachable. You can tell Logan to do anything, and she's not going to hesitate. She's not going to ask questions. She's a tremendous teammate, always has been, really helped lead our younger kids this year and get them in the right spots and help them understand their roles," said Jordan.

Henschen is not only a hard worker on the athletic side but also in the classroom. The senior is ranked second in her grade with a 4.73 GPA.

"I think it's just a personal motivation. I'm able to balance my sports and my academics just by having a planner, writing everything down that I need to get done, and then just managing my time correctly and having the discipline to stay on task," said Henschen.

"The effort she puts into all three things, being involved in so many activities and still holding herself to a high standard in the classroom, just goes to show you that she's a good person and she has strong character," said Bruce Renner.

After graduation, Henschen will attend Ohio State Lima to study biology on a pre-genetic counseling track.

"I want to be a genetic counselor because my older sister has Down's syndrome, so I've always had an interest in the genetic aspect of that. The research side would allow me to help families make educated decisions about their health," said Henschen.

Balancing schoolwork and sports is no small feat, but Henschen says the lessons she's learned reach far beyond the classroom and the field.

"I definitely take away the [resiliency] I've learned and the leadership skills this community has taught me — that not everything's going to go my way and I need to keep going until I get to where I want to go," said Henschen.

Congratulations to Logan Henschen — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week of the Week.
