Ottawa's long-time mayor has resigned. Kenneth Maag was arrested late last month on a misdemeanor solicitation charge after a prostitution sting operation conducted by the Allen County Sheriff's Department.
He's pleaded not guilty and has a trial date of September 21st in Lima Municipal Court.
Council president Dean Meyer had been filling in as acting mayor since Maag went on a leave of absence. Meyer will continue to serve as mayor through Maags' unexpired term.
Ottawa council will have 30 days to choose a new council member to replace Meyer's empty council seat. If council can't fill the vacancy, Meyer will have another 30 days to name his successor.
As for who will become mayor in January, that item will be determined at an organizational meeting of village council. They will first pick a council president, then that person will become mayor for four years.
