ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) — The Toledo Zoo took its show on the road Tuesday, making a stop at the St. Marys Public Library to teach children about animal species commonly found in their own backyards.

The program focused on native wildlife, highlighting animals such as rabbits, squirrels, deer and raccoons that residents may encounter throughout the region.

The Toledo Zoo's Mobile Discovery Lab brought a hands-on educational experience to the library, featuring biofacts and interactive displays centered on native animal species.

Library officials said programs like these reinforce that libraries have evolved beyond being places solely for books and now serve as community hubs that offer a variety of educational experiences for all ages.

“Libraries are really more about being community centers with a variety of events. The idea is to say yes and answer every question,” says Emily Ott, St. Marys Community Public Library Marketing Specialist.

The St. Marys Public Library has a full schedule of events planned throughout the year. Residents can visit the library's website or Facebook page for upcoming programs and event information.
