LIMA, OH (WLIO) -Â Apollo Career Center, Mercy Health, and the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center came together to give students an unforgettable Mean Girls experience.
Students from Project SEARCH, an Apollo program that helps individuals with disabilities transition into the workforce, were invited to enjoy VIP treatment before seeing Sunday night's musical, Mean Girls. The VIP area displayed the artwork that they had created based on the show. Before the performance, the students were able to meet some of the cast members, and they had already been doing Mean Girls-related projects leading up to the day of the show.
"They were given the opportunity to come and tour the Civic Center, which was really neat for them. We also went down to ArtSpace and they created positive affirmation notecards and they made "brag books." They really got to do a lot of fun things that day" said Leigh Taylor, the instructor and coordinator of Apollo Career Center's Project Search.
"It means so much just to meet those students and know how much it means to them to see the backend of the Civic Center and the lights and everything that goes with it," said Carmen Cecala-Wells, the director of development for the Civic Center Foundation.
"I think the really important thing for them tonight is for them to be exposed to the arts and what wonderful programs, and productions, and shows that we have here in Lima, Ohio, and the fact that they get to experience that firsthand," said Ann Stiles, Mercy Health's community affairs coordinator.
Project SEARCH will be hosting an open house on December 7th.
