Putnam County reports first case of Monkeypox

Ottawa, OH  (WLIO) - The Putnam County Health Department says there is no cause for concern after the county received its first case of Monkeypox. The single case of Monkeypox was reported Thursday. Those who are close contacts with the case have been notified. The health department says that the disease is very rare and that the risk for the general public is low. Common symptoms of Monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash that can look like pimples or blisters. A total of 276 cases have been reported in the state with two of those being in Allen County. Common prevention methods include hand hygiene, minimizing skin-to-skin contact, and to avoid contact with any materials that have been in contact with an individual with Monkeypox.
