Columbus Grove promotes healthy mornings with school breakfast celebration

COLUMBUS GROVE, Ohio (WLIO) — The Columbus Grove Bulldogs kicked off their day with a hearty breakfast as part of National School Breakfast Week.

With the help of school mascot Spike, students began their “Quest for a School Breakfast,” a themed celebration highlighting the importance of starting the day with a nutritious meal.

Columbus Grove schools have been serving breakfast to students for about 15 years. Throughout the week, food service staff will offer different menu items to see what students enjoy most as they start their day. Activities and prizes are also planned to encourage students to come to school fueled and ready to learn.

“Breakfast is so important to all of the kids in the morning, it gives them a good start for the day, keeps them focused and full. That way they're able to learn and and do everything that they need to do with the schools. So, you know, we really promote the program and encourage kids to come in and eat. We offer a lot of different things. We're always trying new products, and it's just, it's, it's great to have the program and fun for all the students.” says Kristen Hertel, Food Service Director, Columbus Grove School District.

School officials hope the week’s activities will encourage even more students to participate in the breakfast program both now and in the future.
