KALIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — It took several hours to clean up an agricultural herbicide spill in Kalida.

The Putnam County Emergency Management Agency and the Kalida Fire Department were called to the intersection of Ottawa Street and East North Street for liquid spilling from the back of a semi. The road was covered in a white substance after one of the containers on the back of a semi-trailer was punctured.

The herbicide, Atrazine 4L, is used on farm fields. Approximately 250 gallons of the substance was released, and it took around seven hours to clean up the spill. Kalida police notified the school and local manufacturers about the incident. The Putnam County EMA says you may see a white residue on the roadway until the next rain rolls through.
