Renovations for Allen County Airport

The Allen County airport will be fixing up their runway with an approved federal grant.

The president of the Airport Board met with the Allen County Commissioners about the grant.  Overall, the airport will receive $4.5 million of grant money, and the airport is able to match that amount without taking any money from the county.

The money will be used in April 2017 to grind down large cracks in the runway, closing the airport for 6 to 8 weeks.  The renovation came about after inspectors said that there was no time to waste.

"When Federal Aviation came down with their survey team and sized the cracks and everything else, they said that we need to do this now.  It's not something that can wait," said John Neuman, president of the Airport Board.

The airport is also currently constructing a building for their snow removal equipment.
