Restoration efforts on the Putnam County Courthouse are ahead of schedule.
Putnam County commissioners say work is going well on the 106-year-old building. The bulk of the work right now is washing the outside of the building and filling in the joints where it's needed. Once that's complete, crews will spray and seal the limestone to keep it together for years to come. After the east side of the building is complete, the handicap ramp will move to the east side creating only one entrance and exit for security purposes. A new roof is also being worked on and partially complete.
"This building was built in 1913 and some of the things are wearing out. We placed, in the process of putting in a new clay roof on it, clay tile, and the first roof lasts 105 years so we expect that on this one too. We're doing it a little better this time," commented Vincent Schroeder, Putnam County Commissioner.
Completion is set for early December of 2019.
