Road reconstruction project

Construction on a long needed road replacement in Perry Township is set to begin.

Roschman and Motel Avenues located off State Route 309 just east of Interstate 75 will be completely replaced in the coming weeks. The $192,000 project is being 80% funded with dollars from Issue one money through the Ohio Public Works Commission with Perry Township responsible for the remaining 20%, which is approximately $39,000.

The county is heading up the project because of its size and say it's long overdue. Roschman Avenue is basically a 6-inch concrete slab never intended to be a public road and its deterioration is becoming dangerous.

"Large chunks of concrete that have washed off down into the storm sewers and are actually plugging the outlet tile, that's how bad it's getting. Very dangerous situation out there really," commented Allen County Roadway Engineer, David Louth.

Degen Excavating of Lima was awarded the project. It's expected to be about an 8 week construction with a completion date in late October. Louth is asking the motoring public to be patient and courteous during construction. While it's only 725 feet of roadway, the work will be tedious and completed in phases.
