The class donated $1,000 to the restoration efforts of the St. Marys Theater and Opera House. The building has been around for over 120 years and the students felt it was important to join other community members and businesses in helping save it. Since the structure has brought a lot of entertainment to the community, the students put on their first “St. Marys Got Talent” show to raise their donation.

“One of our officers said, ‘You know something we need, something fun for our community’,” says Junior Audrey Shannon. “And we thought, maybe a talent show to bring local the talent in and people to come in on a Sunday and just enjoy the show.”

“We wanted to donate to the opera house because it is our community awareness project,” adds Sophomore Ciera Rupert. “And this is a very important piece of our town.”

The DECA class wants to continue to hold the talent show and donate the money to the renovation project. One day they would like to hold the show at the theater when it is all complete.
