LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Fun and learning went together at Ohio State Lima during the annual “Steam on the Quad.” The event is for families and students in K through 8th grade, who could visit around 45 different hands-on activities to better understand science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The activities were created by local businesses, 4-H programs, and Ohio State departments and student clubs. Thanks to community partners like Charles River Labs, The Toledo Zoo and COSI were on hand for the first time to educate and entertain the young students.
“One of the things we want to do, by showing folks when they are young about STEAM, is get them interested in careers in these areas someday,” says Robin Bagley, Ohio State University of Lima. “Because these are areas that are good paying and there are a lot of employers in the area. So, we are hoping by getting them interested really early, they will be excited about it, they will keep that excitement through school, and consider coming and getting college education in those areas.”
Over 220 kids participated in the 7th year of “Steam on the Quad.”
