LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The study of medieval times led to a demonstration teaching the art of stained glass to some Lima City School students.

Liberty Arts Magnet invited ArtSpace/Lima to give the 4th graders a better understanding of stained glass. Local artist and Lima Senior graduate Debb Cusick teaches at ArtSpace and demonstrates the techniques of creating a piece of glass art. She showed them how to cut the glass and how to use copper tape and flux, to solder the piece together. It all tied in with their classwork.

"So, we are working in a medieval unit with our current curriculum. Since we are very arts-heavy here at Liberty, it's really neat to pull the arts teachers into the classroom and learn the arts while we're learning our core curriculum," said Amy Dennis, English language & social studies.

"I had to melt the thing and hold the thing and it was weird," commented Demoni Rogers, a 4th grader.

"I'm really shaky so it was kind of hard for me to do. Because it was heavy too like the stuff you have to hold is heavy. And then you had to melt the metal onto the feather," stated Reese Mitchell, a 4th grader.

Many of the students showed an interest in possibly taking art classes that being offered at ArtSpace the next two Saturdays.
