Even though Thursday is Thanksgiving, it is also one of the busiest days for shopping of the year besides black Friday. Caity Jackson was out at the Lima Mall talking to shoppers about their Holiday deals. Many shoppers were out working off their turkey tackling their Christmas lists and taking advantage of deals. Thanksgiving is considered the new black Friday for some retailers.
"We had dinner at 1, then we were at Penny's by 3, waited in line at Old Navy and have been in line at Victoria's Secret Waiting to get in. First I was kind of upset that everyone is going to be opening Thursday, but now that you are out in the atmosphere of every body having a good time and shopping, its been fun."
"It's become a bit of a family tradition now, you know things have changed in dynamics and dynamics in families have changed, so a lot of people take this time to be together. they may eat early and then come out and shop early and spend all night shopping and we love it."
Many come to the mall for that Holiday buy, but Thanksgiving is about family, and that family tradition carries over from the dinner table to the stores.
"There is a mother and daughter in here now that I have seen for several years in here throughout the years that I have been here, so that's really kind of neat to see everybody come in and as they get older, their kids get older, and they keep shopping together which is really nice."
"I mean I've been doing this for a number of years and I see people returning again and again and now they are bringing their families in and there is even a sorority group that used to meet here every year and have t-shirts and everything, so they make it an event."
According to the National Retail Federation's Annual Consumer Spending survey, consumers plan to spend an average of 935 dollars during the Holiday shopping season.
