LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima Memorial Health System hosted a hands-on neuro and trauma experience on Wednesday.

Students that are interested in healthcare careers, especially brain surgery, were given the opportunity to explore this path through a guided dissection of a sheep's brain.  Starting with a presentation talking about the different aspects of becoming a surgeon, then moving onto learning the parts of the brain, and finally, being able to slowly dissect the brain and learn through hands-on experience how the brain can work. The hands-on experience session was made to create an understanding of how brain injuries happen, how they're treated, and how teams work together for emergency care.

Hands-on neuro and trauma night inspires future surgeons in Lima

"My first experience was hands on and that's what drove me into what I do. There's a big difference between being a medical doctor and a surgical doctor, I think the hands-on experience is what drives that," says Dr. Jeffrey Lobel, Neurosurgeon at Lima Memorial Health System

The night left the student participants with a greater insight into a potential new career path
