SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - Families stopped by a local business Sunday afternoon for some trick or treating.
For the funeral home, celebrating holidays with their community is part of being a local business.
For the third year, Chiles-Laman Home hosted a trunk or treat. There were around 20 vehicles for kids to walk through, get candy, and check out the different decorations on each car. Themes were anything ranging from fishing to witches. After filling their bags, there was also free apple cider and freshly made popcorn. All volunteers at the event are either Chiles-Laman staff or their family members. For the funeral home, celebrating holidays with their community is part of being a local business.
"It's important to reach out to the community and show everybody all of the fun things that we can do because we're not typically thought of as a fun place. To bring that other side and show the people that we do have a fun other side is really nice. We really love doing this; we love everyone coming out, and it just makes our day to see everybody showing up," said Abby Chandler, a funeral director with Chiles-Laman.
New this year was a pumpkin decorating contest. Entries were dropped off last week, and the winner chosen by staff received free tickets and a gas card to visit the Toledo Zoo.
