LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Apprentices from around the state put what they learned to the test this week in Lima.
The United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Service Technicians came to the Lima site for their state apprenticeship contest. 42 people from the 15 locations around Ohio tested their skills in plumbing, pipefitting, welding, and other categories. The Lima union alone spends around one million dollars every year on apprenticeship training, and this competition shows the results of trade professionals passing on what they know to their apprentices.
"Most all of them guys and gals have been through a five-year apprenticeship; they are in their fifth year. So, they get a chance to show off what they have learned and what they can do," says Brad Wendel, Business Manager, UA Local Union 776. "They really test their skills and put them through a rigorous testing."
The winners of the state competition will go on to compete in the regional competition in June.
