LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Unity Elementary School has a new way for students to access books any time of day.

The school recently installed a 24/7 Little Free Library, part of a national effort by Little Free Library to expand access to books and reach 200,000 library boxes worldwide. Unity librarian Maralee Sullivan applied for the grant last summer. The school was one of 200 nationwide selected to receive a library box and 200 books. Students can take a book, return it or keep it, making reading more accessible outside of school hours.

“Any time you can get books in the hands of kids, that's very beneficial. And the public library isn't within walking distance from here, so I think this is just going to be a really convenient way for kids to get books. And especially when the weather is warm, kids are out, walking, riding bikes, it's going to be right here all the time for them to just stop and grab a book,” Sullivan said.

Community members can donate books by stopping by the Little Free Library in front of the school and dropping them off.
