VAN WERT COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) — The identity of the person killed last week in a rural Van Wert County house fire has been released.
Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas Riggenbach said the deceased was 67-year-old Jeffrey Gillespie of Dixon. Gillespie died in a fully engulfed house fire in the 3500 block of the Ohio-Indiana State Line Road in Dixon.
During the initial investigation, authorities found bullet holes that went through a neighboring home, grazing one person. In an update on Tuesday, Riggenbach said based on evidence collected at the scene, it appears the gunshots originated from the burned home and were fired by Gillespie.
Authorities have not released an official cause for the fire.
