VAN WERT, Ohio (WLIO) – An early morning fire in Van Wert led police to discover a U.S. Postal Service employee allegedly destroying undelivered mail.
According to the Van Wert Police Chief, around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, a Van Wert police officer responded to a report of an unattended fire in the 900 block of George Street. When the officer arrived, they found mail burning in the backyard.
According to police, a mail carrier who lived at the residence was burning undelivered mail that did not belong to them. The Van Wert Fire Department was called to extinguish the fire.
The investigation has been turned over to Van Wert Postmaster Greg McKeddie.
