Wear Purple Day Used to Talk More About Domestic Violence Awareness

Continuing on with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Crossroads Crisis Center brought some awareness to Mercy Health-St. Rita's.

For the second year, Crossroads set up a booth at Mercy Health-St. Rita's for 'Wear Purple Day'. There, people could find various prayer cards, information for victims or people who may know victims, as well as the purple ribbons to make other people aware. One Crossroads board member said the booth makes people at the hospital aware that domestic violence is prevalent here and around the country. Some people even shared their stories at the booth.

"There have been some tears of people who said, 'I was a victim and this center helped me,'" Gayle Holdgreve said, a board member of Crossroads Crisis Center. "And people who have said, 'I have a patient who needs this information right now.' So it's come to light, I think, with more people. And more conversations with people who have never shared before that they were a victim."

Crossroads' last event planned for the month is the 'Make a Difference Day' held at the area's Chiefs Supermarkets on Saturday.
