WOOD CO., OHIO - Wood County pays $1.5 million to restore services affected by a ransomware attack.

The county is also working on strengthening their computer system security.
The attack was first detected back on December 9th, and it impacted several county offices, including the sheriff’s office and jail and the common pleas courts. After talking to cybersecurity experts, the county commissions agreed to pay the money to the attackers to restore their access to their computer systems. The county is also working on strengthening their computer system security. Media reports say the money will come from the county’s reserve fund and will not affect next year's budget.
