November is "National Adoption Month," and Allen County Children Services is getting the word out about the process. So far this year, the agency has had twelve children find a forever home through adoption, triple the amount of last year. It's been one of the busiest years that Allen County Children Services has had, but there are still 10 children between the ages of 3 and 17 waiting for a permanent home, and that list could grow. So the call is going out for loving families to step forward and learn about the rewards of providing a child with a loving place to call home.
One in four older adults will fall each year, but there are some things that can be done to help prevent a fall from happening. The Area Agency on Aging 3 held its Fall Prevention Day to raise awareness of fall risk and preventative measures that people can take. There were several community partners on hand to talk about their services, and the senior citizen services talked to people about safely getting up and down from a chair and the floor. Because learning the right steps now could help prevent a fall later.
The Area Agency on Aging 3 is helping seniors get food on the table. 400 boxes of free fresh, locally grown produce were distributed to low-income residents over the age of sixty. Boxes included items like zucchini, onions, and peaches. The boxes went quickly because there are so many people in our region struggling to buy groceries with inflation, and oftentimes healthy options can be even harder to afford. For seniors especially, eating right is a necessity to prevent health complications.
