400 boxes of free fresh, locally grown produce were distributed to low-income residents over the age of sixty. Boxes included items like zucchini, onions, and peaches. The boxes went quickly because there are so many people in our region struggling to buy groceries with inflation, and oftentimes healthy options can be even harder to afford. For seniors especially, eating right is a necessity to prevent health complications.

"Their diet and being able to provide healthy food options is so important. Again, if we can provide healthy food options, that can reduce some of the effects that we commonly see within our aging population. Our mission is to serve older adults and caregivers and individuals with disabilities. Any time that we can enhance quality of life, it's really important for us," explained Dre White, population health director at the Area Agency on Aging 3.
White adds that it's not too late to sign up for the Senior Farmers Market Program, which gives $50 to spend on certain foods at local markets through the end of October. The Area Agency on Aging 3 is located at 2423 Allentown Rd, Lima, OH 45805.
