Monday was the only food distribution scheduled for December at the West Ohio Food Bank, and the hours were extended. More than 950 families were signed up for the 6 hours of the distribution. West Ohio Food Bank officials say that they have served 60,000 non-duplicated persons in 2024. They say the need has not diminished since the pandemic but has increased, and they are trying to keep up with the need.
The Area Agency on Aging 3 is helping seniors get food on the table. 400 boxes of free fresh, locally grown produce were distributed to low-income residents over the age of sixty. Boxes included items like zucchini, onions, and peaches. The boxes went quickly because there are so many people in our region struggling to buy groceries with inflation, and oftentimes healthy options can be even harder to afford. For seniors especially, eating right is a necessity to prevent health complications.

The Kibby Street offices will be observing holiday hours of operation. They will be closed from Monday, December 26th through Monday, December 2nd. If anyone is in emergency need of food, they encourage you to find one of the local food pantries they serve. The West Ohio Food Bank provides for dozens of panties in an 11-county area.
Distribution day is here as the Lima Salvation Army hands out over 560 bags of toys to area children
It was distribution day at the Lima Salvation Army for its Christmas Assistance program. Bag after bag, actually more than 560 bags full of toys, being picked up to get wrapped and put under the tree for Christmas. The Salvation Army saw an increase in need this year and those getting the help are thankful.
The Lima Rotary Foundation donated $5,000 to the Lima Salvation Army. The money will be used where funding is needed. The Salvation Army provides programs all year long and this donation will help with a variety of needs. Christmas Assistance distribution begins this Wednesday. The red kettles will be out with bells ringing through Christmas Eve.
One local animal rescue organization is making sure that some people don’t have to make the choice between feeding themselves or their furry loved ones. All Starr pet Rescue teamed up with the West Ohio Food Bank to give away cat and dog food to whoever needed it. The organization has been helping rescue animals for nearly four years now but decided about a year and half ago to do pet food distributions whenever they can get enough donations. Normally they have between 100 and 150 families that stop by around every three months to pick up a large bag of food for their pets.
All Starr Pet Rescue in conjunction with the West Ohio Food Bank will be having a free pet food distribution this Saturday November 26th from 2-4pm. Distribution will be at the green and tan pole barn located at 207 S. Greenlawn Ave. Elida Ohio. They will limit the number of bags per vehicle as to serve as any families as possible.

Organizers say it's a great opportunity for people to talk to each other about what services they offer to someone who may be in need of them.
