West Ohio Food Bank serves hundreds of families at Allentown Road distribution

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The West Ohio Food Bank makes it easy for those who need it to pick up food.

Nearly 400 families and over 1,000 individuals were served at Saturday's distribution on Allentown Road. They were given items like ground beef, apples, potatoes, and emergency boxes with shelf-stable food like canned goods. Food prices increasing over the past few years have left more families in need than in the past. This means more of the food bank's distributions are pre-register only, to make sure there's enough for everyone who comes.

"We try to do at least two major pre-registration distributions every month. Here in January we actually did three. We did two on-site at the food bank and then one here today in front of the old K-Mart on Allentown Road. And again, we need to go pre-registration for the majority of these because just such a need is there. They tend to fill up usually within a week's time," explained Jason Aldrich, the communications and public relations manager for the West Ohio Food Bank.

To pre-register for an upcoming distribution, visit the WOFB's new website.
