ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Monday was the only food distribution scheduled for December at the West Ohio Food Bank, and the hours were extended.
Volunteers and staff from the Alvis House here in Lima assisted the West Ohio Food Bank with the distribution.
More than 950 families were signed up for the 6 hours of the distribution. West Ohio Food Bank officials say that they have served 60,000 non-duplicated persons in 2024. They say the need has not diminished since the pandemic but has increased, and they are trying to keep up with the need.
"We continue to see an increase in the number of individuals that have to come through our food lines and get assistance. And that is people that are working just paycheck to paycheck, that they're living, and they need that extra help. Especially during this time when you have higher gas bills, higher electricity bills because of heating home. So, we're fortunate that we're able to be here and provide these distributions so we can help to alleviate that burden," stated Tommie Harner, CEO of the West Ohio Food Bank.
