An Allen County family held a lemonade stand to raise money for the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities after their youngest son, Elliot, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The family hopes sharing Elliot's story will bring awareness to the challenges families face while promoting inclusion and support for individuals with disabilities.

There was a great turnout for the bingo and disco night representing those who have developmental disabilities.

Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities Superintendent Renee Kohler and Assistant Superintendent Melissa Ricker spoke about individuals with disabilities overcoming barriers and stigmas, as well as the emergence of more inclusive practices today.

The Center for Peace and Reconciliation will host a free program in recognition of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

Lima Senior High School DECA students made a $1,000 donation to the Special Olympics.

The Lima Senior High School culinary program is helping individuals with disabilities build confidence in the kitchen through a hands-on outreach class focused on teaching basic cooking skills.

“It’s quite the undertaking and a whole day event, but it’s a really fun thing to get to kind of talk and hang out with everybody and see our customers and just have a beautiful day like today,” said Anne Dunbar, intake support services coordinator. “We usually have about 80 to 90 volunteers. We have about 40 people who are delivering dinners over lunchtime to area businesses, and then that’s not including all the people that are putting all the dinners together.”

The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities is sponsoring the 27th Annual Chicken Barbecue on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities' offices located at 2500 Ada Road, Lima, OH.
