LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and the Center for Peace and Reconciliation is marking the occasion with an informational program focused on inclusion and opportunity.
The event will feature the superintendent of the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities, who will discuss barriers people with disabilities have faced over the years. She and the assistant superintendent hope to raise awareness about inclusive practices that create greater opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities, especially in the workforce, and highlight the effort many put forth to earn and maintain their positions. Linda Lehman, a board member of the Center for Peace and Reconciliation, emphasized the importance of respect and understanding.
“To accept those people and to respect those people, and to realize what a magnificent effort takes place for them to be in the workplace every day, it's something that we often take for granted,” said Linda Lehman.
The program, “Understanding the Abilities of Individuals with Disabilities,” will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the Center for Peace and Reconciliation, 129 S. Pierce St., in downtown Lima. The event is free and open to the public.
