LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Dozens of Lima-area children started their summer break with excitement and energy as the City of Lima's Summer Parks Program kicked off its eight-week season.

The program is being offered at two locations this summer — Faurot Park and Robb Park — and is open to children ages 6 through 12. Participants will stay active on weekdays through July 31 with a variety of activities designed to keep them engaged throughout the summer months.

Daily activities include playground time, games, crafts and several field trips planned during the course of the program.

Program organizers say the first day is always busy, but it is also one of the most rewarding days of the summer.

"The first day is very chaotic, but it's also probably one of the most fun days of the program. We have kids that are returners, so we love seeing the returners come back every year. But we also have some really new faces and it's exciting to get to know those kids. So, it's very chaotic, but it is probably one of the most fun days of the summer," said Julia Washington-Allen, playground coordinator.

Even on the first day, children were already making new friends and discovering their favorite activities, whether spending time on the swings, monkey bars or slides.

The Summer Parks Program will continue through the end of July. A limited number of spots remain available at Robb Park for families still looking for summer activities for their children. For more information, contact Lima Parks and Recreation at 419-221-5195.
